After nearly 50 years of growing sod, we know a thing or two about what makes a lawn last. And this spring, we're proud to share something we've been working toward for a long time: Mountainview is now completely chemical fertilizer-free, both on our sod and in the fertilizers we carry.
This isn't just a product change. It's a commitment we're making to our soil, our sod, and every lawn we help grow.
Why we made the switch
Healthy grass has always started underground. When you feed your soil well, with the right natural inputs, the right nutrients, and the right balance, the grass above it grows the way it was meant to. Chemical fertilizers can deliver short-term results, but they don't build the living, resilient soil that cool-season grasses like Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescues, and Ryegrass need to thrive year after year.
We've already used organic chicken manure and biologically rich compost on our own fields, but moving fully away from chemical fertilizers was the natural next step, and we wanted to bring that same thinking to what we sell.
Introducing Acti-Sol's Natural Lawn Fertilizer, our new all-natural fertilizer line
We're now carrying Acti-Sol fertilizers, and we couldn't be more confident in the choice. Made from natural hen manure and enriched with calcium, these fertilizers feed your soil and your grass simultaneously, building natural matter, supporting beneficial microbial activity, and delivering slow-release nutrients that last.
We carry two formulas to take you through the season:
- Spring/Summer Lawn Fertilizer – 7-3-2: A natural nitrogen boost to wake your lawn up and keep it green through the warmer months. Apply from spring through summer. Start once overnight temperatures are consistently above 10°C, and reapply every 6–8 weeks to maintain colour and growth.
- Fall Lawn Fertilizer – 4-3-9: Higher potassium to harden your grass before winter and set it up to bounce back strong in spring. Apply in September or early October, before the first hard frost.
